I’m Fallon L. Dickson, Founder and CEO of Tropical Origins®—a woman-owned hair care company proudly made in the USA. I’m equally honored to hold the title of Mommy-in-Chief to my daughter, Tiwa Ayo, who inspires my work, sharpens my focus, and fills each day with joy and purpose.

My journey started in 2012 when my stylist told me to embrace my natural texture — and that moment kicked off a full-on love affair with clean beauty. But here's the thing: a lot of the “natural” hair products on the market weren’t really natural. I’m talking synthetic fragrances, parabens, petroleum, soy, palm... you name it. All the stuff we don’t want on our bodies or our planet.

I went to my kitchen — literally — and started crafting my own hair care formulas. I started with moisture-rich conditioners with avocado, coconut and essential oil, then developed a travel-friendly shampoo bar (because I was always on the go between Tulsa and NYC at the time). That bar? Compact, plant-based, and good for up to 60 washes. Next came my nourishing hair and scalp oil — a true staple in our culture — made only with clean, non-toxic ingredients. And because wellness knows no gender, I formulated a revitalizing beard oil, too.

But this wasn’t just about making great products. It was about something deeper. 

As I grew deeper into the natural lifestyle, I started connecting with other health-conscious women in Tulsa who were also embracing their natural hair. I’ll never forget the woman who whispered to me that her husband didn’t approve of her afro, so she hid it under a wig. That moment stayed with me. It showed me how deeply rooted — and damaging — beauty bias still is in our community. It’s what led me to launch Afrikan Violets via Meetup, a natural hair and wellness collective where Black women of all ages could come together, share stories, support each other, and reclaim the beauty of our crowns.

Tropical Origins is rooted in wellness, tradition, and self-love. I created it for people who want to care for their hair without compromising their health — and for every person who’s ever felt pressure to hide their natural beauty. Whether you're rocking natural tresses, braids, locs, or a beard that deserves some love — this space is for you.
